Rumba Cubana

Couples dance routine

  • Rumba is a secular genre of Cuban music involving dance, percussion, and song. It originated during the late 19th century by Afro-Cuban workers in the northern regions of Cuba, mainly the poor neighbourhoods of Havana and Matanzas. However, Rumba is not one single style and the term is used to refer to three main subgenres (guaguancó, columbia, and yambú) all of which are Cuban musical styles of direct African. These syncretic styles would later be referred to as "rumba", a word that also meant "party".

Rueda de Casino

Group-style dance routine

  • Rueda de Casino or just "Rueda, is a type of salsa round dance, born in Cuba in the 1950s from the Cuban dance style known as "casino." Its name is due to the fact that it emerged and was danced for the first time in the Casino Deportivo Club of this country. Depending on the setting, the dance can be either choreographed or improvised.

Timbatón

Line-dance style routine

  • It was created in the neighborhoods of Cuba back in 2007 and began with a homemade reggaeton experiment, which was nothing more than mixing what was already sounding strong in the clubs, in the best Puerto Rican style, and giving it a very Cuban touch with a composition basic but effective kick drum, bass and clap music. It is also called “reparto” and is already heard in the best clubs in Miami and Europe.
